We unintentionally left our key in a coat pocket and didn't discover it until we returned home. I immediately called the motel to let them know I had the key and would mail it back. The woman informed me that their policy was to charge $35 for an unreturned key, but I would be credited that amount when they received it. After a few days I called to see if they received the key and inquire about the refund. She informed me that they needed to change the locks, and I wouldn't get the refund. I don't appreciate being lied to. The stay was OK. Room was a typical low end motel. Cleanliness was not a priority here.
Well when you are traveling and you pull off the road to a nice looking location it would be great it they had a demeanor to go with it. So sorry to bother them. why be in the hospitality business if you don't want to be a host to people. good luck staying open. PASS THEM BY, SAVE YOUR SELF
I reserved a room for one night by calling the Owner, Jerry, directly. I changed the reservation the next day, which was good, because Jerry had mistakenly put me down for two days. Still, Jerry managed to screw it up, erasing the wrong day. So, not only does Jerry totally screw up my vacation he also billed my credit card claiming that this was my mistake. Apparently no the only time this has happened. This guy has no business ethics. Go somewhere else.
the Blue Ridge is a good basic no frills sort of place. It is also great for hunters, fishermen and various outdoors people since his land borders lots of state forest land so you can walk from his motel and hunt, fish hike, bicycle or swim. They are also friendly people. It is also a quiet area, not much traffic at all goes by so you can get good nights sleep as opposed to some of the other Schroon area motels where you can hear local and Adirondack Northway traffic noise. He is also the only open motel in all of North Hudson too, since all the rest folded after Frontier Town closed. So if you have to do business in North Hudson, that is the place to stay. Some minuses are he has satellite cable & internet so it can be spotty in bad weather. Also some of the rooms have lame mattresses in them. But he is changing out the bad ones slowly and will give you a better one. Front showing new porch Front showing new porch Front Lawn Front Lawn
Featuring free Wi-Fi and rooms with a satellite TV, this Schroon Lake motel is just 5 minutes’ drive from Interstate 87. A complimentary continental breakfast is served each morning in the dining area. Featuring a microwave and a refrigerator, the rooms at Blue Ridge Motel include a work station and air conditioning. En suite bathrooms are provided and include free toiletries and towels. Guests...
Quick run though: If your a light sleeper. Not the place. You hear everything in this place. Owners are very very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and cheap. WIFI is "usable" for being in the middle of the Adirondacks. Ample parking if your towing a boat. (Although no outside plugs available if you need to charge trolling motors) The amenities are not the greatest:: Air conditioner in our room didn't work, just blew air from the fan, bed is uncomfortable, etc .....but saying that....its very cheap compared to the area hotels and if your just looking for a place to sleep the night like I was I would recommend. I stayed at the Blue Ridge motel a few nights ago with a hiking group that I organized. The rooms was as advertised - not 5 star, but perfectly nice. There was a common room that was very useful to us, as we used it as a base camp for us to organize ourselves. I was especially happy with the service. The new owner was a super nice guy - when we came back from the hike at 7 pm, he let us use showers in a couple of rooms and have our post hike meal in the common room without charging us. He even gave us clean towels to use. I can't think of many motel owners that would do that. If you are hiking or vacationing in the area and not looking to stay in some fancy place that would charge twice as much, this is a fine choice.
Full disclosure: This review is two years old. I am transferring my google reviews to yelp. I saw that the Blue Ridge doesn't have any reviews, and from my experience, I think they deserve one! We chose this hotel for our weekend Adirondack trip bcs it was listed as pet friendly, and we were traveling with a dog. I can say with 100% confidence that we made a great choice! What a lovely place! Warnings fair: the hotel recently (11/08) came under new ownership, so if you're planning on going there in the near future, be aware that the outside of the building is under the tiniest bit of construction, and there might be some glitches in amenities (our cable was out, for example). However, this is completely made up for by the amazing friendliness of the staff and gorgeousness of the property! Also, regarding the pet friendliness, it's a little too friendly. The owners have dogs that were running around off-leash, which was stressful for our reactive pup. Luckily, when we got breakfast, we mentioned it and they brought their dogs in right away! We were given discounts on account of the construction/cable. And even with that, the owners didn't start on any construction until they knew the guests were all up and awake (ok, I think we may have been the only guests this weekend) and they also gave us their dvd player so we could watch movies in our room! I have rarely been treated so well at a hotel! The hotel property is gorgeous, and the owners told us about the various areas we could walk to see the sites. The trails behind the property were so beautiful and extensive, we spent the first day just walking around there! There's a path leading straight to Schroon River, and a beautiful view of the weir! The room was wonderful. Big windows, a VERY well-working heater, quick-heating water, microwave/fridge/coffee maker. Everything seemed clean and fresh and the little touches (embroidered pillows, potpourri dish) were very sweet. The beds were pretty good. I would say a little smaller than I expected and not the thickest mattresses in the world. Not sure if that's getting changed eventually though. And even though, like I said, we seemed to be the only guests (I could be wrong, though), each morning we still had a very nice continental breakfast spread available! Bottom line: This place is very "mom and pop," but very recommended.
The motel was clean and neat, but probably only a 1-star motel, given the small bathroom, with no place to store your toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, etc., other than use them out of your cosmetic bag. The major problem, however, was a infestation of flies. The inside wiindow was covered with them, and they were crawing up the walls and flying around the ceiling. We must have killed - without exageration - at least 50 of them (they were a bit slow because of time of year - mid November). I tok a photo of the floor covered with dead flies after we finally finished swating them. When I reported this to the office, the only response was the warmer weather must have brought them out. I asked how they managed to get inside the room, and the response was "I have no idea." I suspect most rooms had the same problem. If you can put up with the gross feeling of sharing your room with a bunch of dead flies, this is the place for you.
