“Free admission on Thursdays 5-8pm. Care to see the heart of avant-guarde art nestled in the heart of LA's little Tokyo, why not visit the Geffen on Thursdays and enjoy FREE admission. (You can thank Wells Fargo for that sponsorship of the public arts) ”

“Warhol's works to celebrate 49th anniversary of first solo exhibition. Ah, the big 49. Celebrate the occasion by viewing works by the world's very first hipster, brought to prominence right here in LA. Also a must-go for Campbell soup fanatics. ”

“Historic Hollyhock House! Ah, Frank Lloyd Wright what you lacked in sound architectural design you more than compensate in aesthetic innovation. You are a genius of brick and mortar! Tours inside the exquisite Hollyhock house run every weekend this summer. Bring your student ID for a $5.00. That's a heaping dose of LA culture for $2.00!”

“Cirque de Soleil! Iris. Observe in mystified wonder at acrobatics, death defying stunts, and poorly translated French-Canadian comedy in Hollywood's most storied theatre. It's playing until New Years 2012!”

“No one likes an obligation brunch - an acquaintance getting engaged, a colleague having a baby. I may show up, but I don't care. I have to coax out my sentimental side by ordering Luna Park's bottomless mimosas or sangria for $13.50 on Saturday or Sunday. Another option is the 2 for 1 bloody marys. After an hour, I'm crying in my goat cheese fondue and forcing the waiter to take my number. Still hopeful this one will call...”

“Friday is Jazz night all summer long. Bob to the beats of a rolling tenor sax or sophisticated chords of a piano virtuoso, all while ensconced in the hip contemporary art ambiance of the LACMA. This scores as one of my ultimate dates to impress. ”

“Jon Brion = Largo fixture. Superb music producer and His guitar playing is as excellent as it is eccentric. These shows are routinely sold out. I recommend buying them online to prevent one from being so ignominiously turned away at the door. ”
