If you are seeking delicious, outstanding chicken cooked to perfection you need to visit Colonia Fried Chicken. This chicken is the best we have eaten versus all the fast food chains and restaurants that pride themselves on chicken. We tried some of the side dishes and they were fresh and delicious. The restaurant is family owed, and the attention you receive is awesome. Prices are low, especially when you compare the product you are purchasing is of excellent quality.
So we've tried this place a couple of times because lately chicken galore hasn't been up to snuff. I have mixed feelings about it. Our most recent experience we ordered delivery, and had some major problems. There was no marinara sauce for the mozzarella sticks (despite specifically asking for it on the phone), there was very little tartar sauce on the whiting sandwich when I asked for extra tartar sauce, and our side of macaroni and cheese was literally cold. Not warm, not cool, but cold, as if it came straight out of the fridge. The fries were just ok; a little cold, soggy, and overly greasy. And for the record, we live less than 5 minutes from the place, so it was really surprising that the food was not hot. I guess in retrospect we should pick up if we go here again.
Best fried chicken/comfort food in the area. We come here often, my kids LOVE and look forward to their chicken. Their buffalo wings are so addicting, we always ask for the sauce in the side since my kids don't like it spicy. Another plus is their prices are just right! Love Colonia fried chicken!
Can we talk about Colonia Fried Chicken for a second? The chicken itself is exactly what you want it to be. Quickly prepared, in large servings, stupid cheap and delicious. But here's the twist - the staff makes you *want* to stay there. Every visit that I've made (believe me, I've made several since they opened) felt like I was coming home. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. Even when I was indecisive about what I wanted, they sat with me and explained everything on the menu. Who does that now a days? CFC does.
Finally tried colonia fried chicken yesterday and was very happy with our choice!!! We had a guilty craving for some fried chicken and decided to give it a try. Highly recommend it!!! Chicken is moist and seasoned great!. Of course deliciously crispy and not dredged with too much oil. The owner was very personable and happy which made supporting this local business far more satisfying than another chain. I also learned they use halal chicken instead of the hormone/antibiotic pumped chicken that is unfortunately used at so many places. Give it a try and support a great addition to our neighborhood in colonia!!
Friendly, conscientious family business with excellent prices and stays open late so those who work evenings can still get good food afterwards. The interior is clean, comfortable, and as well-lit as a good college library. That helps at night, for both the workers and the customers. There is ample parking, and delivery service is fast. The chicken is definitely better than KFC which I stopped buying after Colonel Sanders died. There is something to be said about caring about what is served, not just maximizing profit, and also being PEOPLE-oriented (not racist like that Sicilian pizza shop on Lake). They have good food for every budget, and some sandwiches you just don't find anywhere else around Colonia.
Chicken was quite tasty and a good price, but what's with the rolls? You get one roll with any amount of chicken. Yes ONE roll. Funny thing was you could not even purchase more. They were average to below anyway. Sides were small and average. If you are just buying chicken not bad.
My chicken was ready quickly, but the thigh I got was all kinds of twisted and weird... the kind of piece of meat someone should have looked at and said "let's not sell this." With that said, the rest of the chicken was good quality, cooked nicely, with a decent batter- not the best but not the worst. The fries are shoestring-esq with next to no seasoning, so I didn't enjoy those. Prices are fair.
