I've been going here the past 3 years and have not been disappointed. Typical braiding salon, yes there are people that come in and try to sell things on occasion but I don't mind a little entertainment after sitting 6-7 hours in the chair. Every time I've gone I've gotten Senegalese twists and have been able to keep the style for 2.5+ months. They provide the hair but of course you can bring your own. I'm not tender headed but depending on whose doing my hair I could see someone complaining about tightness. All in all I recommend this place. Not the best of areas but I have never had any issues.
In a service industry it is vital that you give the client what he/she wants. I didn't get what I asked for and the money they gave me back for my dissatisfaction didn't resolve anything for me. Granted the work is descent and the one gentleman was very helpful and apologetic. I will wear this style and probably get some compliments but it's not the functionality I need. Will I go back probably not. Would I recommend probably with the caveat that you be very specific and watch them as they are working. I did both and it didn't work so add be more vocal than I was.
I spoke too soon. I forgave the fact the braids (as stated from others) were too tight and I could not sleep with my scalp touching my pillow for two days. I forgave the fact the braids were WAY too small. When I asked for them to be larger, they told me that with human hair, I can only have micro micro MY-KROW mini braids. Look at my profile picture - this is not my first time at the rodeo... but whatever. What got me is at the end of the session, I realized they were not braiding my hair all of the way down! They braided half of the length the put a KNOT in my NAPPY, HAPPY, NATURAL HAIR!!! Who puts a knot in hair let alone a head full of the natural stuff?!?!?! LOOK AT MY PROFILE PICTURE!!! (I'll wait) They did not say anything about the knots until my head was done. I was PANICED! When I asked if they knotted all of the braids, they had the BRASS BAWS to say that I did not ask for my hair to be braided all of the way down (AKA, BRAIDED) and if I wanted my hair braided - it would have been an extra 50 dollars. (Which I would have happily paid) After that, they said that they would take (rip) them out for me when I was ready for new braids. Done by them, of course. Too small + too tight + KNOTTED mid hair braids = complete braids ripping from my scalp with my hair still entwined. It took the most calm and long 4 days to remove these suckers. I would say about 10 braids ripped from my scalp while I was trying to get the freggin knot out. I would never evernesss go back. And would strongly suggest the same to anyone else who wants braids with human hair.... Unless you like patches of bare skin showing. Unfortunately, I do not rock that look very well. I am going to go BACK to DC to get my hair done. Worth the extra 50 bucks and drive.
First time I came I was a liiiittle skeptical based off of the other reviews. I made an appointment and was seen right away. Two women were working on my head at once, one was on the phone trying to arrange for someone to pick up her twins and the other was on the phone boo-loving. I'm very thankful for headphones. Overall, it took a lot longer than it should have with 2 people working on my head. My 2nd time, I got senegalese twists that were larger than the initial time, one lady, she was nice and accommodating. The twists weren't done too tight around my edges, but they started to unravel not long after getting them installed. I would never get them that large again (at fouta). Overall, they should have lasted a lot longer for the money I paid. It was def. easy taking them out though :) I will have to say that i'd go back, I'd just get smaller twists. If you are afraid of the city, you may not like the neighborhood. I always manage to get a spot right out front. Bring cash (not sure if they take CC)

Hopefully it grows back I am interested in caring for my natural hair and so i won't be back because i don't feel that this particular stylist treated my hair gently enough. I cannot speak for every stylist there but my experience has taught me that African stylists are addicted to TIGHT braiding.
I spent like 2 weeks trying to find the most reasonably priced shop to get my kinky twists done. I read the reviews on Fouta and thought I'd check them out. I got a parking spot right in front of the salon and I walked in to ask about price and appointments. The woman told me it would cost $180 and i could come back the next day at 8:30am. I came and the hair was supplied. It took a while longer and I paid $20 extra because I have a VERY short hair style. I was amazed they were able to do it. I gave a large tip because I was so pleased with how my hair turned out. The ladies were very nice. I will definitely return to Fouta for other braiding services.
Just got my hair done this past Sunday and I love love love mine and my mothers hair. They assured that the braiders were very gentle which, minus a few tender spots, they were. I don't know if the pricing was good or not since it was my first time but we'll see how long the style will last me. Could use a small remodel, but other than that great service!
I researched almost every braiding spot in Baltimore and was glad I decided to visit Fouta African Hair Braiding. This was my first time and I will be returning. I showed a picture to the braider explaining that I wanted box braids and she advised me on the size. I was expecting the length of them to be mid breast but when they were done, they were waist length in which I was really happy. I went in at 9:00 am, they finished by 2:30 and my braids were very long and full. Two braiders worked on my head. They ask if I was ok; if they were braiding tight and everything. The two ladies I had were very friendly and professional. I had them done on May 27 and will be taking them out soon and returning to Fouta to get medium size, waist length twist.
I found this place through Yelp. I'm thankful I did, too. They do a great job on braids. With that said...uhh. The place is entertaining. They have: *crack heads streaming in to sell their food stamp cards *non-crack heads streaming into to sell random goods (like tylenol, sneakers, and watches) *random people coming in and walking to the back...and disappearing (I don't ask) *poor quality African soap opera videos I mind none of this because it's hard finding people who are excellent at hair braiding, especially for their price. But just so you know...the ambiance isn't there.
They were so nice! I have had experiences at other hair braiding facilities and they are nowhere near as welcoming as I felt at Fouta. It cost 200 for human hair micros. I was planning to make an appointment when I called, but the owner told me they could take me that day (Saturday by the way)! It took me a bit longer than normal to get them done(hence 4 out of 5 stars). The owner was nice enough to walk me to my car since it was 11:30 and also apologized for the extended time it took(and the fact that they ran out of mousse). I had a new girl on the right side of my head and she took an hour and some change longer than the woman on my right. So all-in-all it took me 8 hours for my micros. They are little long for me right now, but I'm going to my stylist to have them cut.
