Great haircut. Great shave. Great setup. Comfortable chair. Good location. One problem which compelled me to write this. They didn't listen to me about how I wanted my beard, and then on top of that they cut my lips while trimming my beard resulting in a very painful 3 to 4 days plus possible scarring. Stick to them for basic haircuts and basic shaves. Nothing more.
Absolutely great service! I’ve been coming to this barber shop ever since 2015 and not once had the let me down. My barber Arturo has always given me a sharp look and one that doesn’t change much while my hair grows. He’s a honest hard working man and one that won’t let you down. I don’t think I could ever change barbers or go anywhere else. The price is worth it and deserves what it pays and with their products they sell you’ll be looking good until your next haircut. I’m proud to say that this is one of the best barber shops anyone could ever go to and one you could rely on!
If you want a regular cut with no style. This is the place for you. Non of the barbers know how to do. Proper fade. I don't know how this place has 4 stars, when the barber can't do a simple fade. Went back today to give hem a second chance and try another barber. Then I saw the work they were doing and it was terrible. How are you a barber and you don't know how to blend properly.
I rarely "poo poo" a business, for the very idea that someone or some place doesn't have a redeeming quality is foreign to me. That being said, I have gotten better haircuts at super cuts and other mall-chain locations than what I received here. Again, this might be specific to the barber that cut my hair (older Russian woman). I told her what I wanted then she proceeded to do whatever the hell she wanted. Crap. Worst haircut ever. Thinking of wearing a turban or not going out for a few weeks. Very disappointed and would not recommend this woman unless you want to play a practical joke on someone or can exert Putin-like fear into her, so that she doesn't screw up your head.
Wish I'd read the reviews. Older barber had to fix my hair when a younger barber who of mumbled not only left my hair a mess, but whenever I tried to explain, he made it worse, doing the exact opposite of what I was voicing my concern over. He just kept saying, "this is what you wanted" instead of just listening and fixing it. The older barber finally jumped in and did what I'd been asking, but my hair us far from what I wanted because the younger barber couldn't communicate well and wanted to work off assumptions instead of what I was explicitly asking for.
I tried this place out a few months ago, and typically get a shaved head with a manual razor blade. The normal, older barber I see is really good. We're talking about 4 star territory here. His razor skills are amazing. But I only knew that his skills were amazing until today, when I decided to use another barber (since my regular barber was on vacation). Imagine someone has a razor blade shaving your scalp, and is pressing the blade so fiercely and at such a bad angle that the blade cuts through your skin. It hurts. Now imagine this happens several times while you are trying to remain calm and composed in your seat. After reacting each time he cut me, the guy didn't even change his approach. He was also clumsy, and came close to shaving off my eyebrows. I must admit, I made a mistake by staying in the seat after the first laceration to my scalp. That said, I have been to other barbers where it's just one nick, and they adjust their approach. In any event, I am paying for my reluctance to simply walk out of the place or to switch to another barber in the same establishment. At the end of this ordeal, I ended up paying my fare, having the cashier say "sorry about that," and telling my barber "you get no tip." The barber just stood there, listless, as if nothing had happened. You know it's a bad shave when you have onlookers (the cashier) apologizing and the barber saying nada. That said, I am totally fine not to have engaged in any argument about how bad of a job this barber did, how the place shouldn't hire barbers like this, or how I shouldn't pay for my shave. Instead, I will vote with my wallet. Never going back here ever, even though I like my regular barber. I average a $5 tip and $20 haircut twice a week, so that's only about $2,600 / year this establishment will lose by allowing such an incompetent, untrained barber to be working there. Overall, I give a rating of (a) 4 for the good barber, (b) 0 for the crappy barber, and (c) 2 for the establishment for hiring crappy barbers. A total of 6 points, averaged over three criteria equals an overall score of 2.
Rude people. Went in after work because I needed a cut. At first I'm ignored, even though they saw me walk in. When the unoccupied barber finally acknowledges me, I barely get to say hello before he turns his back on me and walks away. Starting to feel not so great about this place. He turns around since I haven't walked away yet. I ask him how much for a skin fade. He thinks, then says $18. The occupied barber then also replies, yea $18. I know I only have $15 on me. I say thank you and start to walk out. It's all good, I'll get a cut tomorrow. The occupied barber stops me to let me know that if I want it cheaper I can have it for $6 across the street, at the barber school. I can't tell you if they give the world's best cut or the world's worst cut. I can tell you that to call them rude is just about the nicest thing I can say about them. Go anywhere else.
Really not impressed with the hair cut I got here. They were nice enough and they do try (I liked the straight razor, hot towel, and massage - shows effort). But the hair cut I got was really bad. I gave clear direction but at the end of the day - they guy just wanted to use his clippers and it came out badly. I have a pretty easy hair style and I go to some pretty cheap places like great clips, so my standards are pretty low to begin with. Won't be coming back, although I probably just got the worst guy in there.
I've spent 4+ years looking for the right barbershop in NYC, and I finally found it here at Liberty Barber Shop. They are quick, efficient, and always remember to offer you the neck shave, hot towel, and back massage. Most importantly, I have never been more pleased with my hair. They pay attention to detail and do a terrific job all around.
Interesting thing about this place is this.... The first time you go your haircut is reasonably priced...for some reason as you appear more often the price changes...I've paid 3 different prices for the same haircut and shave. Today I paid almost 40 bucks for haircut. To me, that's outrageous. Some of you are used to paying 40 dollars for a haircut...I am not and I'm sorry that they've convinced you that this is reasonable...it is not. The hot towel and all the other stuff was the equivalent of shoe shiners snapping the rag to make themselves appear like they are working harder. I have gotten MUCH better haircuts in Harlem for nearly 20 dollars less. What I would say is this.... If you need a haircut in the morning before work this is a good place because they open really early...Avoid the guy in the 2nd chair nearest the door...he is a novice...the best barber is the guy in the 2nd chair furthest from the door. Make this place a last resort because you couldn't get a cut over the weekend. I am almost certain your neighborhood has better barbers and more reasonable prices.
Fantastic and friendly service for a super reasonable price. Wash, Condition, Cut, Shave (w/ straight razor), Hot Face Towel and various products to make sure my skin felt like it hadn't been attacked with a sharp piece of metal(I'm not 100% sure what they were...). All for the grand total of 38 bucks pre-tip. Even more impressive -- I was kind of rushing them to get to an appointment, and when I arrived there I realized the neck-line on my beard was running a little lower than I'd have ideally liked. I went back and asked if they'd re-line it a little higher about an hour later. They sat me immediately, re-lined it with clippers, shaved it with the straight razor again and absolutely refused to take my additional tip for being such a pain in the ass. Real professionals. I'll be back.
Worst haircut I have ever paid for - the barber was a younger kid who doesn't know what a "hard part" is - simple barber lingo. Furthermore, he didn't know how to execute a simple number 1 guard "high & tight" - more simple barber lingo and job. I told him not to touch the top, and he buzzed right through the part and took off the top and part off... WHAT A ROOKIE (He's not even in the game, he shouldn't even be in the sport!). I called the Manager and he wants to make it right... but, cannot fix what has been cut off. Plus, the kid never apologized for f**king up the job, which makes me the most mad about the whole thing. Stay away, unless you are like me and need a barber cut immediately and cannot walk to somewhere else. Thanks for making my hair the worse it could be during Fashion Week.
Woman couldn't speak English well enough to understand my request, so I had to speak through an interpreter (aka the cashier) in order to explain what I wanted. Perhaps I should have just left then, as we couldn't communicate well enough, but I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. Bad choice. Beard-trim was lazy and she didn't know what she was doing. Yes, you have to get the mustache, too. She also only massaged my right shoulder...(?) Perhaps if I spoke Russian I'd get a decent cut, but that's not the case. Not going back.
I just got my haircut from Liberty a few minutes ago. I have had positive experiences there in the past, especially from the lady barbers, however this morning I had a very negative experience. The Barber seemed sloppy and his skills were novice. I could tell he was only half listening to what I asked for. He offered to fix the parts that seemed uneven, except there isn't much to be done when too much is chopped off haphazardly. Now I have the type of haircut that requires a lot of time and styling product to make look normal -- otherwise it sticks up unevenly and looks pretty stupid. I can not recall the Barbers name, but I do remember on his certificate it said "Apprentice" and that the certificate would be void if he worked unsupervised. Well, I can attest that he is working completely unsupervised, and I would report him if I could remember his name -- they should revoke his license until he has more experience (and attention to detail). I hope the management reads this and decides to train and supervise this person. Again, they have experienced barbers, but if you are new or in a hurry, it's the luck of the draw. I think it says something about the establishment to not have consistent standards for their employees. I'm extremely disappointed.
Finally found a great barbershop next to my job. On the plus side, it's also right next to my new gym. Issac was a blast. Just by pointing out that I needed short on the side and a little long on the top and front. Bam! beautiful cut. The shop was very neat and clean, not too loud. The price was the regular price I paid from my old barbershop, so no complains here. Yes, there are cheaper, but I'm in Time SQ. At least go and try it. It's only hair. I'll be seeing them in 3 weeks.
Stopped by this place because they were the only shop open early enough for me to get a cut before work. The guys there were really friendly and took care of me right away. I am usually fairly picky with the way I want my hair, and they were very accommodating. It was a great cut, all of my lines cleaned up by a straight edge, and they even give you a massage with a machine while you relax in hot towel. All that for $16.95 which isn't the cheapest you can find in the area or in Manhattan, but the extra few dollars are well worth it.
Been going here for over a year since I started working nearby and they're as good as it gets. Have had my hair cut by no less than 4 of the barbers here and although I may have my favorites I have yet to receive a bad haircut. Cut, straight razor neck shave, hot towel, shoulder rub all for $16 in NYC? This is a legit barber shop people.
Love these guys! I always sneak in on my lunch break to get a Fade and one of the best shaves around! No seriously I haven't shaved my own face in months because these guys are awesome! Mark is a good guy and has become my go to cutter here. The only thing this place is missing is a bottle of whiskey/cognac and a cigar. Man up, stop shaving your own face and treat yourself to the good life.
Stopped in here after reading some reviews on Yelp. Had a wonderful experience. Been living here for a few years and haven't found a barber shop that I prefer. They give a personal touch and make your experience a very welcoming one. Shot out to Mark for the great cut; Will surely be returning!
Needed a haircut and for 20 bucks I can't complain too much. I usually go to Premium Barber Shop on 51st but this was close to my work. I was a little disappointed at the haircut, but a great haircut under 20 bucks is hard to come by. Probably will try somewhere else next time though
Had some time to kill sandwiched between a red eye into JFK and a train upstate out of Penn Station. I have been trying to find a new barber in LA for a while now, so I was well past due for a haircut. Saw the solid reviews on Yelp and figured I'd check them out. Arthur took me right away and immediately set about reminding me why I miss old school, East Coast barber shops. Wash & shampoo with a scalp massage, cut, hot lather neck shave, hot towel, and shoulder rub....all for $17!!! He made sure he knew exactly what I wanted before he started cutting. This was exactly what I needed after 9 hours on various trains, buses, and an overnight plane ride. I think I'm going to start putting off my haircuts if I know I'll be flying back east. Really wish we had more places like this in Los Angeles.
I just came from this place, after my first cut. Here's a snippet of chat with the friend who recommended it to me. I'm considering reducing it to Haiku but for now here it is in its original format: [18:25] Jesse P: best haircut. ever [18:25] Jesse P: fucking massage? [18:25] Jesse P: hell yeah [18:25] Jesse P: playboy? [18:25] Jesse P: fo sho [18:25] Jesse P: a manly experience
