Have been going here since I was a Corporal (1991) and am now retired and still go there. Great service at a great $$$$. Have always had great conversation with any/all who have cut my hair. For the gentleman who left a comment re: the "boring conversation" and would rather play with his phone while getting his haircut, just reminds me of what is really important to a large part of this generation......... Conversation through texting. Myself, I prefer the old fashioned method, face to face........ There's a lot to be said about things of old, just look at the current state of the economy, our government, and the world as a whole. Bottom line, great barber shop & great conversation.
One of the worst haircuts I've ever had! I was working in the area and needed a haircut quick and stumbled across this place. There was only one lady working and when I walked in she acted like I interrupted her TV time with her Spanish soap opera. She was extremely rude and gave me one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. On top of it when she was done she didn't even give me a mirror to look at the back ,and when I got home I soon realized why, she must have been blindfolded when she cut my hair! Best of all when she gave me change from my $20 bill, she gave me 2 $5's as if she was forcing me to give her a 5$ tip, my tip to her is to find some customer service and try some quality when cutting hair ....stay away from this place unless you feel like wearing a hat until your next haircut.
I hardly do reviews but this one I have to. My 15yr old son came in to this barber shop second time around now. Because the 1st time he went, he was so happy with his hair cut. And my son is never happy with his haircut every time we go get one. But in all the times I went with him to get his haircut, this particular barber he really really likes! Once again after tonight's haircut he was satisfied and happy with his cut. He special request the barber name: Martini. He loves that he takes his time cutting his hair into perfection. And truly cares for his clients request. Thank you Martini for giving my son the satisfaction and a great customer service! He said he will never go to anyone else but to you on a Sunday evening.
Best barber shop I've ever been to, that's saying a lot since I've averaged about 50 hair cuts a year for the past 20 years. I recently moved from Camp Pendleton to Vista and in still drive 20 minutes to Mission Square Barber Shop. Price: $7 Ambiance: good mix of a classic barber shop and modern amenities. Barbers: always ready for good easy conversation but know when to pipe down because the football game is on. Family cut: I won't take my two sons anywhere else and my sister-in-law loves coming here (long thick hair) Speed: once you're in the chair; 5 minutes. If there's a line, tell them you're getting Rita's (gelato) next door and they'll hold your spot. General: I've seen customers pay for each other's cuts and the barbers give discount or say "get next time" on a regular basis. One of them even let me sneak through the back door to go to a Pirates football game. Great service, great people: Marines, it's worth establishing weekly roots here. Civilians, they're not just a "hack and whack" shop and will take care of you too. Do yourself a favor and give Mission Square Barber Shop a shot

I've been going to this shop since 1998. The staff has always been courteous and professional. No matter what time of day you go, you can always expect a short wait and a quick and exceptional haircut. They even take care of the little people if you have them! They're close to the base and have great hours for that last minute haircut.
I actually started a Yelp account so I could review this place. I've nicknamed this place "the Rusty Clipper". I don't know if the barbers here are uninformed about the fact that you have to oil the clippers once in awhile or if maybe the one who usually cuts my hair mistook me for one of the GIs who invaded Montezuma and slaughtered her family. Seriously the back of my neck feels like a fresh prison yard tattoo right now. Also they never warn you before they use that over powered air compressor on your head so it gets all over my phone. Yes, it's rude to text while you're getting your haircut, but you know what else is rude? Forcing boring conversation on someone who can't flee because they are in the middle if a haircut! All and all I still go here because they have so many chairs so I never have to wait long. ...and the only thing I hate more than hair on my phone and the back of my neck raped weekly is waiting, so silently my contempt froths...
Pros: pretty quick and inexpensive ($10 + tip)Cons: sides and back where ok. but top was horribly uneven.two times in a row I ended up with orlando (last chair) Both times the top was so bad I had to go somewhere else to fix it. Years ago I got good cuts from the guy in the first chair near the window. Never going back.
