Staff was extremely rude both times I attempted to drop off a piece of clothing, rejecting my business before the owner assured me he could clean my garment. Received the item one week later only to find the item faded and looking worse than before. Give your business to a more polite and professional dry cleaner.
I always bring my things here to be laundered or dry cleaned, and they always do a great job. However, recently I brought in a "dryclean only" wool sweater. Unfortunately, it was laundered and shrunk so I could no longer wear it. I called and talked with Keith, the manager, who was so professional, apologetic, etc. He reimbursed me immediately for the cost of my sweater, without hesitation. I am beyond happy with the way the situation was handled! We all make mistakes, but it's the manner in which we handle it that matters. I will be forever a loyal customer as a result of the way I was treated!
I called around for prices to clean a couple of twin duvets. I called areas where I was running errands. This place was more but there was a 20% off coupon. I was also told in by 8 out by 5. When I got to the store later that day they told me it would be $10 more per duvet and that it would be 4 days but I could call a day earlier to see if it was ready. I needed the job done and I was tired of running errands so I left my covers there. They were ready early. But picking them up was an ordeal. I was told there is no discount on duvets. My claim check had been noted by the person doing the intake. Still the lady said no. I said, well you need to honor it on this order. She said no. Finally she said yes and indicated I could have gotten more off if I had used the AAA discount (which I did not know about) and she did not give that to me. The covers are clean but at a higher price than other places. And I find it strange that they raise the price on receipt and try to do the same at pick up. There was nothing wrong with my covers. No stains or anything. They just needed freshening up. I will not be going back to this business.
I am Honestly shocked by the negative reviews. My parents live in the neighborhood but I live east and make the drive here. They're fantastic! Efficient, friendly, and just plain good at what they do. I took a shirt into parkcrest that was delicate and they ruined it brought it here looked better than brand new- shocked they fixed it! They always get my stains out, I just tell them where the stain is and it's always gone when I pick it up. They even do AAA discount and it saves you quite a bit if you have the card! I've converted my mom to use them even though they were in their neighborhood she never used them. I recommend them to all my Friends and trust them with all my garments, no matter the material!
I left a skirt for dry cleaning. The store ruined my skirt and blamed on the manufacturer. The manager couldn't be more irresponsible, I waited for at least 3 weeks and he didn't even call me back to try to explain the situation or try to solve the problem. This is the worst dry cleaning experience I have ever encountered. I am very dispapointed.
In one batch of laundry and dry cleaning, these guys broke buttons on two different suit coats, tore the hem out of a pair of slacks and ripped a shirt. I went in and complained to them, as well as produced the ticket for the batch and they never made a single attempt to make this right with me. I gave the ticket to the employees, they told me that the manager would contact me, but never did. Lousy service. I recommend that this cleaner be avoided.
I love the folks at Star Brite. They are always pleasant and the owner is wonderful. I had a shirt with stains that appeared after they cleaned it and I asked them to redo it. The redo didn't work and the owner graciously gave me a credit on my account. He asked if he could keep the shirt and try again. The next time I picked up the cleaning, there was the shirt in perfect condition. They are good people and understand the importance of customer service.
This place is awful! I usually use a cleaner near my office but decided this week to give Star Brite a try since it is walking distance from my house. The woman at the counter was plain rude. She asked for my phone number, I gave it to her, and then she rolled her eyes and rudely asked for it without the area code. I'm not from here and my number has a Houston area code so I always let people know that when they ask for it. I had some clothes for laundry and some for dry cleaning, she wasn't paying attention to the answers I was giving to her questions, and I had to reiterate what I needed 3 times. She was clearly frustrated, as was I! When I picked up I dealt with the same unpleasant woman, who was once again rude, and I decided then that there are too many cleaners with friendly staff on Far West to ever come back here again. Also, the tags on my clothes have the wrong phone number thanks to the genius at the counter.
HORRIBLE! I took my comforter to be dry cleaned and when I picked it up, it smelled so bad I had to put it outside on my balcony. The material was hardened and it was totally ruined. Worst experience I have ever had with a dry cleaners. If you are in the area, then I recommend Reid's or Mesa Cleaners.
Went there with a Woolen Blanket, complements from an airline: Price was $20.08 also took a Winter Jacket with hood and liner...Price was $18.29. This is a total of $38.37 for cleaning 2 pieces of material. I had a Groupon Coupon for $30.00. They actually wanted $8.37.00 more. I refused and said call the police, "I'm being cheated". I picked up my 2 items and walked out of the store. I questioned if they had a 2 price system. One for coupons and one for walk-ins without any coupons. STAR BRITE PRICING IS RIDICULOUS ( this word is not strong enough). It's just plain wrong boarding on questionable ethics that an individual owner of a business should modify. It's cheating. the people who bring in any cleaning and are not told the price until one picks up the clothing are being robbed. Austin
I was THRILLED when this Star Brite opened because Star Brite on Burnett is so amazing that I have been commuting out of my way to get cleaning ever since I moved two years ago. Was so excited to have a new Star Brite right next to HEB. But these must be independently owned. Turns out pricing is a bit different, and this location also deemed several of my button-up shirts un-launderable and so they dry cleaned them for over $6 each. As a result, I had a pretty huge bill even though they honored two of my coupons. (Thank goodness I also had a Yelp coupon so the visit didn't totally bankrupt me.) So far I've tried one of the dry-cleaned button-ups, and all the buttons on one sleeve are broken and most of the rest are cracked. Mind you Star Brite on Burnett has laundered and pressed this shirt several times without any problems. In sum: all Star Brites are not created equal. Burnett, fantastic. Far West, not so much.
I've used them for years and years. As others noted, the OWNER (only) is just terrific and very helpful the rare times he's there. The staff is not trained apparently to be the same - or possibly not authorized tho they don't explain that. If it is an unusual or tough stain, we're pretty much apparently all out of luck here. And they have gotten radically higher in 2012 than I recall during 2007-2011. I don't agree with having to "go to the website" to find their coupons, which they NEVER advertise or mention unless you ask. Nor do they have a sign or any indications they match (or better) coupons of others. The whole NW Austin area is seriously in need of a really GOOD quality drycleaner, all around. I would never have said that until 2012 once i found Comet. Something's wrong now there, though - so this is just a head's up. IF you go, take the coupons or they are outrageously high now. One more note - don't bother at all with alternations. They are totally inadequate with those. Instead, go across the street (Far West) to a really GOOD and specialized place just West of their same Hart St.
Comet, I was caught short on time and I thought I would give you another shot. The new staff is much friendlier and helpful. Nice. I am afraid you still get an 'F' on the quality of cleaning. I had 3 pairs of slacks dry cleaned, to sample your goods again. Unfortunately, I had to go home and change clothes mid-day because of the skunky smell of someone ELSE's laundry. Please change your cleaning fluid. I paid to have my clothes cleaned, not soiled. I'm done, Comet. My apologies to you new, friendlier staff.
Surprised to see so many negative reviews. While not my favorite place in town, Comet is just as good as the other dry cleaners on Far West, and I've tried them all multiple times. We've lived in our house more than 15 years now, so I've had plenty of opportunities. The staff is admitedly not the friendliest, but they're fast and efficient. Whenever I've had an issue with a shirt that was lost or damaged, they've always worked to make the situation right. If you're lucky enough to deal directly with the owner, you'll be pleasantly surprised. While the rest of the staff is a little unfriendly, the owner is the opposite. The main thing I find attractive about this cleaner is they're in the same strip as Starbucks. I'm a huge Starbucks junkie and stopping at Comet gives me yet another chance to feed my jones.
Been going to Comet for years (with coupons is the only way I can afford it), but today ends the relationship. Another location failed to put my coupons back in the bag so I had no coupons when I arrived at the Far West Location. I explained that their people had not given coupons back, but they could have cared less with a dull shrug and a "I have no control over what they do" to which I replied..."and you think I do?". Then when I asked for prices on alternations, pressing and cleaning, I couldn't get a straight answer. When I pressed, the clerk looked peeved and asked the "boss" who came back with an exhorbitant price. I picked everything up and left, never to return to Comet again. Not a very strategic business policy to irritate long time customers! Will be looking for new dry cleaners with good reviews on Yelp!
I have used this place for a long time and never had issues. Just recently this place has ruined 3 of my skirts and 2 dresses. They stretched out the elastic band in each of these. They dont fit now. I took them to the alterations place to get fixed and it so expensive to fix. I will never go back to Comet cleaners again.
Are you someone who might be looking for the most overpriced, expensive dry cleaners in the history of Texas or the United States? Try Comet Cleaners! The upside, none of my clothes this one visit were ruined or lost. Bravo. But usually, when someone screws you like Comet did, they buy you dinner first. Just saying. $112 for the amount clothes that cost around $50-$60 anywhere else is beyond outrageous. Normally, I would have stood in there and yelled at them as to how they can get away with charging people that price, but frankly, I didn't even care or have the energy. I figured I would never go there again and write up about how much they charge everywhere I can.
LOUSY. I thought all dry cleaners were basically the same, but I tried this place because of a coupon and they managed to do a horrible job. They actually damaged one of my shirts and it looked like they didn't actually CLEAN the rest of the clothes I gave them, just pressed them. I will go back to the other place I used before that always did a good job (Jack Browns - and no I do NOT work for Jack Browns, I have just used them as a customer a number of times).
This place is awful! I brought a lot of stuff there to dry clean. I even showed them two dresses that had some stains on them. They marked them, and then when I got them back, the stains were still there. They were able to redo the dresses. So I gave them a second try just to see if they were just too busy to do a good job the first time. Oh dear, the second time was exactly like the first. I'd NEVER get my clothes cleaned there again. Plus, they're pretty rude.
WORST DRY CLEANERS IN AUSTIN!! They are over priced and have zero customer service. I have had 3 designer silk items ruined by these people with no apology. Plus they still charged me. I had such a good experience with the Comet Cleaners in Round Rock that when I moved into town I figured I would receive the same level of service. I was way wrong. From now on I will make the drive to Round Rock.
Previously, I only went to Comet when I had their coupons, which was about half of the time. Without coupons, their dry cleaning prices seemed high, so even though this is my closest cleaners, I wasn't exactly a regular here. However, none of my clothes have been damaged, and they do a good job on my husband's dress shirts, which keeps me from having to spend time ironing, so I like Comet pretty well. But this week I didn't have any coupons, so I thought I would ask if they honored competitor's prices. Indeed they do. In fact they offered to beat that price by 20 cents. How about that?! I'll definitely be back.
This place is expensive! It costs approximately $5.00 to clean each item. I'm going to have to find someplace else that's a little cheaper. I will give them credit for offering a $10.00 discount, as a "welcome to the neighborhood" gesture. But I couldn't afford this place without the coupon.
I'm not crazy about Comet Cleaners but I like them. I mean is any cleaners really perfect? The other two cleaners have screwed me on several occasions so Comet is my last hope. I have had to ask for something to be re-cleaned and they willingly run the item back through their system but, why do I have to ask, I ask you... The mister had a shirt come back with a bleached spot and they gave him a $25.00 credit--it was an older shirt. I got the credit. The staff is a little unfriendly but I think it is because they are busy. Somehow, we know the owner and he has purchased high school "what-nots" from us which makes us want to come back. Maybe that's it and not the service. They do give you $5.00 off for every $50.00 you spend with them.
We have been going to Comet Cleaners for about 8 years now and I have no complaints. The staff is sometimes not so friendly, but they are quick and helpful with issues. You have to know what to ask for. I always tell them about spots, what I think it is, any other potential problem areas. I think they've broken a button once or twice, but they were always willing to fix it.
don't even think about bringing your clothes here. the mister got burned a few times with shoddy/non-existent repairs and missing buttons. i had the WORST service once and never returned. my writing a complaint letter to their corporate location went unanswered. boooooooo. save up your dollars and go to reid's across the street.
