6 COVID-19 Safety Tips for Truckers

Posted By Giana

In times like these, drivers like you are essential. As you continue to work and transport the goods we all need, it is important to all of us that you stay safe. We’ve compiled a quick and easy list of 6 important things you can do to travel safer while you’re on the road during the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. Stay inside your truck while supplies are being loaded and unloaded. If and when at all possible, keep your windows up when interacting with other people.

2. If you find yourself with no choice but to spend the night in a COVID-19 hotspot, try to stay in your truck. If you must stay in a hotel, practice social distancing and do your best to avoid frequently touched surfaces like door handles, elevator buttons, counters, etc.

3. When you exit your truck, use a mask or a face covering and maintain 6 feet of distance between you and other people. If you have gloves, use them. If possible, disinfect the surfaces you plan to come in contact with.

4. When stopping for fuel, do not touch the pumps with your bare hands. Fuel pumps are one of the dirtiest things you can touch at a truck stop. They are usually highly contaminated with microbes associated with illness and disease.

5. Limit how often your hands are coming in direct contact with shared items or surfaces. Credit cards, cash, pens, cups, clipboards, etc. If you can, go digital to avoid receipts and handling cash.

6. Wash your hands often. On the road, you won’t always have this option so when you must find an alternative, use hand-sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol.

During this pandemic, the best way to protect ourselves and those we love is to avoid being exposed to the virus. Stay home as much as possible, avoid close contact with others, wear a face covering in public settings and disinfect whenever you can.
