Great place to go hang out at and have fun. I was there a few weekends ago when the band Funk City was there. Cuz i love the good old 70's soul and disco music. I loved it how it was remodeled and very cool people there. And i had a great time dancing with the ladies there.
Where do I start. Yes, the place still looks like it did in 1977 when I was 8 and it was called the Iron Skillet. Interior doesn't deter me, I gave it a shot with my dad and brother. The all u can eat cod fish fry. Blah. No seasoning, no flavor, no reorder for more fish from any of us and my brother is a 300 lb guy, no reorder for him either. Now on to the server. Something was odd/off with her and I couldn't put my finger on it. That was until she leaned in close to explain the bill and I caught a whiff of her boozy breath. Unreal. I really wish them the best but it seems like they are in over their heads or just don't care.
The place could be nice but shouldnt bother doing live music. It should just stay a restaurant and a jukbox joint. Lol The owner Theresa seems to have a serious problem with her alcohol consumption. She is crazy . All Bands out there dont bother booking your band there. Trust me. PM me if ya wanna know why. Spread The Word !!
The food was terrible! We ordered carry out after getting a menu in the mail. The pizza was completely overcooked and lacked flavor! The pizza tasted like rubber. It was supposed to be a butter crust but instead tasted like char. The employee we encountered was very nice but the food quality will keep us from trying it again.
This place is under new management and doing very well. Went there in a Monday night and the place was packed. They are in the process of remodeling so everyone who wrote poor reviews about the atmosphere and the place needing updating.....they are doing it! Best of luck to you and Teresa!!
Came to watch some basketball games because my friends wanted to come here. I should have stayed away just because of the name! , i didn't even know they call it "Twisted Rose" now....this place needs huge up grades and needs to figure out if its a Sports bar or Grandmas basement especially with a name like that.
Like 2 worlds, loud dated bar with dining room resembling a very old and dated rural supper club. Food okay but dining room had drinks served in red plastic solo cups and instead of napkins your given a bathroom hand towel which had a stale odor and tacky feel. Fireplace a nice touch but certainly needs a cleaning, inch of soot on exterior bricks. Server was good but complained about working long hours because of staff shortages. Others complained about having multiple parties booked without anyone knowing. Rushed through dinner because dining room was booked for an 8 PM SSP gathering (Secret Sex Party). Party decorations and contact cards were already on our table when seated which created an uncomfortable vibe. We should have never been seated in the decorated room and a more discrete handling of the 'party' would have been far more appropriate. New owners need to take a step back and look at the product they are presenting. Rural trashy roadhouse or quaint supper club????
The owner Jason made it a point to greet and introduce himself to the customers. The young man that seated came around a couple of times to check on us and our waitress Diana was right on top of things she did great! The only issue we had was it was very cold on our side of the room and the owner kept turning up the heat for us to make it as comfortable as possible and we were very appreciative of that. I would certainly recommend it to others.
We came here to see a band and to have dinner. The waitress was sweet, but really didn't know what she was doing. We ordered an appetizer of chicken wings. Had to send them back because they were bloody raw. That was not even the problem. The big problem happened after we got our dinners. My husband and I both... More
Much better than before however we sat at a table and had to go to bar for drinks cuz no-one stop by to take an order we must have sat for 2 hours and no-one stop by to ask if we needed anything, I get that is a new staff and band was rocking on 2/17 but must try to improve! We were a party of 6 so we took a table instead of sitting at the bar.
Service was very slow. Sat for 10 minutes before our waitress came to our table. I was one minute away from walking out. Never was informed about the daily specials. Food took 40 minutes to be cooked. Chicken sandwich and chop steak. Food was good. Soup was good. Sorry but we won't be coming back.
This was my second time here. The first time was saturday night and the place was packed with a pool league. We had appetizers, which were all very good, and service was good, as well as they found a way to get us a pool table when one came available. TODAY I was here for a business meeting lunch. The burger was excellent and Jason brought us the most wonderful chocolate dessert!!!!! I will definitely come back! I highly recommend this place. Food and service was amazing!
I had a last minute bday party for my mom here and the staff was amazingly cooperative above and beyond !food was home cooked and delicious and it's a cozy casual party room with a laid back hometown bar feel! Affordable beyond belief! Don't let the outside visual of the building scare u ! Go inside and enjoy! Jason and Theresa are wonderful
Went there last night for "Polish Fest," and it's the happiest I've ever seen my father! (Picture below) We all loved the food, which was handmade by Theresa, and we stayed for the free pool. I've never eaten there on a regular night, but Polish Fest makes me want to. The pierogis were awesome as well as the cabbage rolls (loved the sauce!). I also am told they have amazing prime rib on the menu. Would def come again, and the free games are an added bonus.
Oh boy- first impression is that this place smells like your grandparents' basement. Smells VERY strongly of mildew, not good. Gotta believe that means there is mold all over the place here. It feels damp, and the air is heavy. It's very odd, and pretty disturbing. The decor is extremely outdated, and depressing. This place has obviously not been updated or cleaned at all in at least 30 years. Seriously. It's distressing, like going into a time warp. If you can get passed all this, next up is the food. Menu and food is extremely dated. Nothing exciting or interesting on the menu at all. Food once you get it is a 4 out of 10. I imagine in their heyday, this place was probably pretty cool. It's just too bad for them that it's not 1977 anymore. Bar is the same. Meh- lots of other bars, go to one o I hate to say it, but don't go here. The one word description I'd use here is DEPRESSING.
We have gone here to eat for two wedding anniversary dinners. Food is good. It's like stepping back into the 70's in this old fashioned restaurant. They play Perry Como, Andy Williams type music. Very relaxing. We never feel rushed here. You can carry on a conversation and hear the other person. They have a gas fireplace which makes dinner especially nice in the cold weather. Staff very friendly. Highly recommend.
Came here with my four children for their "Taco Thursday .99 Taco Night" That I've seen advertised every time I'm passing by. While our Server was nice, the European Owner was Extremely Rude!!! The layout for the tacos was a do it yourself type of service with the greasy meat being served out of crock pots. This old looking lounge had very few customers but the Taco Bar was out of the shells, cheese, guacamole and salsa. While my children were waiting in line for the Super Slow Food To Come Out, The European Woman said very rudely to my kids (Whom are Bi-Racial) "I don't know what to tell you, you're just going to have to wait!" Ten Minutes later as we're eating our last taco. The server comes to our table and says "I'm sorry I didn't know but you need to buy a $6 pitcher of pop in order to get the .99 tacos" False Advertisement and Racial Profiling at its best!!! As the big sign outside of the restaurant does not say there is a drink purchase requirement. It wasn't until that Rude B**** saw my kids waiting for the food to All of a sudden say there's a drink purchase requirement! I asked to speak to the owner and she wouldn't even come to my table and instead told the server "that's just the way it is" while she was being a complete Wino at the bar with her pal. There's no Wonder why this place is a dead dump. Nobody goes there, the food is mediocre and the service was The Worst Service I've ever encountered at any establishment I've ever gone to!!! We'll NEVER go back to that Dump and I'll be sure to spread the word about that Shit Box!!!
Would you believe we walked into this restaurant and sat at the empty bar..and for all of 15 minutes while there was a bartender...she wouldn't even acknowledge us First she was on the phone.. Walked away then returned after completing the obviously important call..then she was back on the bar n filled a pitcher of beer and walked away to deliver that..still no acknowledgement..ever heard of I'll be with you shortly???? We're obviously upset...is it that we're not regulars? I just left.. So we went next door to the Riverview Riverview Tavern where we were met with smiles and welcome and we're going to be here for a while
Thought we were getting a dining room, turns out it looks like the sports bar is what's keeping it alive, granted it was on a weeknight. The service was good, 1 person for the entire place. The business itself is very dated, but still not terrible. The food was decent and they were accommodating to our party, but still not... More
I have been driving by Wine & Roses every day since I moved to Algonquin in 2013. Over the Christmas break, I had the opportunity to attend a Christmas function at Wine & Roses with some very affluent and picky diners, where I learned about this actual diamond in the rough. First, the outside does not do this place justice.... More
We visited this past Saturday night. I only went because I had a certificate. We walked into the bar side first. Had no idea there were two entrances. When we were being seated, there was only one table occupied. I thought that was weird. Big place and it wasn't packed on a Saturday night, why? I had mixed experiences with the food. My son and I both had the French Onion Soup and the New York Strip. My wife had a chicken sandwich. All these selections were good and well prepared. The French Onion Soup was very good and not too salty. We ordered the Calamari Steak. My son and I love calamari and I should have known calamari doesn't come in steaks. It was horrible. Don't waste your money. The previous reviewer says they had the Potato Pancakes and the were great. Not ours, they were soggy, cold and had a weird flavor. Service was so-so. After we were ready to pay and leave the waitress was no where to be found. Definitely won't be back.
If you are looking for an upscale seafood and steak place to have dinner, this is NOT the place for you. The name of the restaurant is a bit misleading to me....I was expecting more of a nicer establishment after looking at their menu online. I noticed a very musty smell when we stepped inside. The outside of the restaurant... More
We have become friends with the owners. They have a nice bar area and then hidden in the back a dining room with a stone fireplace. Great for those fall/winter days. When we are in the bar area we order the pizza which is very good and thin, which is hard to find these days. They have TV's to watch... More
Stopped in for half price pizza night. Got a large pie which was thin crust with 5 toppings, mostly meats with some spinach. The pizza was actually really good. Also had some drinks which were a decent price and bartender was friendly. We ate at the bar which had several people around and a good amount of people playing pool... More
I feel bad leaving a poor review, but it was just not a good experience. We were not offered menus to begin with, and they were begrudgingly provided when we finally flagged down our waitress and asked for them. They seemed to want to push the buffet, which was $20 per person and just not appealing to us. Burgers were... More
I was sad to see so many poor reviews because this place is wonderful. My husband took us to Wine & Roses for our first date. The steak was outstanding and the amount of food was insanely generous. I was stuffed way before the steak arrived. The quality of the food is just really good. And Theresa does pour heavy when you choose a drink from the bar. I was charmed by the building and the koi pond (which now just holds turtles, I believe) and the wait staff is attentive. With the exception of one dish, I have loved everything that I have eaten there. (The dish in question was not poorly executed, I simply do not like the ingredients.) The bar & restaurant can be quiet (which is a refreshing change of pace from most places in Algonquin) but that only added to the charm. We have been there when it was busy & loud too. Lately we have been skipping 'the Strip' (Randall Corridor) because of the madness. We try to hit W&R on the holidays too because the bar gets rowdy and we can experience the craziness without getting involved. My husband & I were so impressed by the quality of food and service that we had our wedding reception there! We have since gone back many times. I am sad to report that my husband & I are moving across the country so we will most likely not be back to Wine & Roses anytime soon. We will miss this place, the food and the staff. Wine and Roses isn't just a gem; it's a quiet, out of the way restaurant serving great food. The bar can be quiet for a contemplative drink or rowdy for a night out. I highly recommend. :)
Went there the first time with another couple this past Saturday night expecting a lovely dinner. It was the first and last time we will visit this place. When you walk in, it smells of mold and attic smells. The furniture is very old and worn. The wait staff very, very, very unfriendly and the manager was the same. There were two tables filled on a Saturday night at about 6 p.m. no one was there... which had me very curious. It was practically empty on a Saturday at dinner time....very odd! The prices were extremely high considering the lack of Ambiance of this place I expected more and not smells of mold. Save yourself the drive there, the time and money! I would highly, highly, highly NOT recommend this place!!! It really deserves a 1/2 of a star.
Probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. They gave us plastic forks and knives and paper plates. The music was strange because they played a melody of one song with the lyrics from another. It was distracting and very load. We waited for a while for our pizza to bake and when it did come, it was okay, nothing special, and we had to ask for stronger utensils because I had bits of plastic in my pizza. The decor was very outdated too. Overall, I was expecting a nice meal with my boyfriend, but I was more than disappointed with the service of this place.
Went here for a friends birthday party. The place was rented out to the party. She ended up inviting a lot of smokers and a good portion of people sat inside smoking because it was cold out. Place seems to be run very wild and is very old school. I did not eat here but after my experience, I don't think I ever would.
